A registered non-profit, run entirely by kids.
Shining Sparks Ontario Inc. is a registered Ontario non-profit run entirely by students, dedicated to levelling the playing field for kids across Ontario. Founded in 2020 by brothers Bilal and Haroon Khan, alongside friend Amaar Amjad, we began with a simple observation: every child has the potential to succeed, but not every child has the tools.
What started as local peer-to-peer tutoring has grown into a full nonprofit organization. Today, we're a team of dedicated student volunteers providing free academic support, mentorship, and essential school supplies to families in need, helping bridge the educational gap in Oakville and Milton.
2026 Milton Youth Group of the Year & Oakville Youth Leadership AwardThree commitments behind everything we build.
Advancing Education
Free, one-on-one academic support in Math, Science, and English, delivered by trained student mentors, at no cost to families.
Relieving Poverty
Backpack drives, school supplies, and partnerships with shelters ensure a family's circumstances never cap a child's potential.
Cultivating Leaders
Every tutor is a teenager too. Volunteering here builds real leadership, communication, and mentorship skills.
Two ways we help students succeed.
Free, one-on-one academic support.
We provide free tutoring in Math, Science, and English to students across Oakville and Milton. Every tutor is a trained student mentor, someone just a few years older who remembers what it's like to struggle with the same material. That closeness in age makes it easier for students to ask questions, build confidence, and actually enjoy learning again, all at no cost to families.
Making sure every student has what they need on day one.
While tutoring students, our team noticed something else: many of the kids we were helping didn't have basic school supplies either. That gap became our Backpack Fairs, where we deliver backpacks full of school supplies directly to students who need them most.
In 2026, we're running our biggest Backpack Fair yet, in collaboration with the Town of Oakville and the Halton District School Board (HDSB), bringing direct support to 8 schools and delivering 400+ bags of supplies across the community.
